[Chat] MicroPython on FPGAs

Hi everyone,

As I mentioned in my talk yesterday afternoon, Jim, Joel, Katie & myself
are looking at making MicroPython (https://micropython.org/) and FPGAs play
nicely together using the HDMI2USB LiteX firmware, a Python based system
for generating FPGA SoCs (https://github.com/mithro/HDMI2USB-litex-firmware/
).

The goal is to make it possible to do every part of FPGA development in
Python, both the gateware and firmware development!

We have a mostly working repl loop, but still need a lot of work to get all
the peripherals up and running. Eventually we want to be able to define new
hardware in the gateware and have micropython recognise it automatically
(probably using device tree...)

We would love your help with this! I even have spare FPGA hardware for
people to play with. Is anyone interested? We are having a BOF in
Wellington Room 1 on Friday Lunch (12:20 - 13:20)
https://linux.conf.au/wiki/conference/birds_of_a_feather_
sessions/micropython_on_fpgas/

Thanks!

Tim 'mithro' Ansell
