Hi all,

Recently the University of Tasmania (UTAS) invested
<http://www.tpac.org.au/university-invests-5-million-to-ensure-computer-power-matches-research-demands/>
in a new High Performance Computing facility at the Sandy Bay campus. The
facility is designed to provide around 250kw to a range of computing
platforms used by the University and it's partners operating in the
eResearch space and features the usual raised floor, fire suppression,
diesel generator backup etc.

In particular the facility now contains a new HPC cluster from Huawei
featuring ~7,000-cores, 32TB memory, 100gb infiniband which is intended to
function as a mix job cluster. The cluster has been named Kunanyi after the
indigenous name for Mount Wellington (the big hill just up the river). It
will be backed by various high capacity storage platforms including GPFS,
DMF and CephFS.

The facility is not yet operational and as such we have an opportunity to
extend an invite to interested parties who might like to have a look. We're
offering ten participants a tour of the new facility starting 5:30pm
tonight for around 40 mins or so.

The first ten people to add their names to the wiki
<https://linux.conf.au/wiki/conference/birds_of_a_feather_sessions/tour-new-utas-hpc-facility/>
ought consider themselves accepted and should meet everyone else outside
the Engineering building on Grosvenor Crescent

on the University campus at 17:30 tonight (Thursday). It's about 10 mins
walk from here.

PS: Sincere apologies for the late announcement, it's taken a little time
to secure the appropriate approvals.
