Hi Peter,

That's a very generous offer, thank you.

Perhaps those attending who were happy to cover their entry cost might
choose to put that amount towards a donation when we get there.

Cheers,

Jessica

Hi Jessica and all,
I've had a few days to think about this and I have decided that I shall pay
the $150 so that everyone can at least attend, transport issues
notwithstanding.
I'm a very big believer in not just the observatory but in particular the
Grote Reber Museum as a science education centre and have been meaning to
make a financial donation to them for some time beyond the fridge magnets
I've purchased. By paying this money I meet this desire to help them
financially and also hopefully educate some LCA attendees on both
Tasmania's place in radio astronomy research and the contribution Mr Reber
made to modern communications (as well as maybe enjoy and celebrate his...
eccentricity).
Probably more importantly though, it means attendees should be able to buy
an extra fridge magnet.

Cheers,

P.

Hi all,

So far we have 24 people who've added themselves to the Astronomy BoF wiki
page to indicate that they're interested - which is great! But now we need
to make a commitment to the observatory to pay them $$.

We are still very light on cars/spaces, so we may run into problems getting
people there. Some people may end up needing to share taxis, which will of
course increase costs, but it will still be quite a cheap excursion overall.

If you've already added yourself to the wiki, please go ad update your
entry to confirm that you're in and OK with the costs. If you're not sure
or unable to commit, please remove yourself from the list. This gives us a
better idea of the cost split amongst the group. You can always add
yourself back in later if you're able to commit, and if we can arrange
transport.

I plan on confirming with UTAS on Sunday evening (15/1) based on the
numbers that we have as of about 4pm. Please update your entry on the wiki
page before then if possible (or just drop me a quick email if easier and
I'll do the edit). The wiki page is

Cheers,

Jessica

Hi all,

I've been in touch with UTAS about a tour of the observatory and attached
museum. They can accommodate us on the Thursday night for a tour from
6:00pm until 7:30pm. The total cost of the tour is $150 regardless of the
total number of guests - i.e. the more people, the cheaper the tour is per
person. We currently have 13 people who've expressed interest, and all have
so far indicated that they could attend an event on the Thursday night. So
it looks like this is a go.

I've looked into hire costs for mini busses or charter busses but the cost
isn't really viable. We'll need to arrange carpooling as we did in Perth at
LCA2014. I've updated the wiki page with a section for people to advise if
they have a car, and how many passengers they can take. Hopefully we'll be
able to get everyone there and back - but sharing taxis might be the
fallback if we don't have enough cars.

If you're not interested in attending the Astronomy BoF but are a local
with a car who would be willing to either loan your car for the evening (it
will need to be insured!) or act as chauffeur, please also add your details.

We'll need to confirm approximate numbers with the venue in the next day or
two, so please update your details to indicate if you're a definite or not.
If people express interest but then pull out on the night, it will mean
that those who remain will be out of pocket to cover the costs.

The wiki page is at

Thanks,

Jessica
